A Little Bit of History in Fashion.

As time passes trends come and go. No one can forget the fashion that defined the 1970's and 1980's. Now lets think back.. I mean way back, even to the Victorian era. I have always been intrigued by this time period, not only in fashion but in even the homes and culture. Think of fashion icons now. Most people today would come up with names of actors, singers, or models. Back in the late 18th century France, the fashion icon was the Queen Marie Antionette. As American women we have the freedom to wear whatever we want. In Marie's time the women were confined to heavy dresses, corsets, and head dresses. These gowns were made with luxurious fabrics in rich, saturated colors and often had intricate beading or lace work. You can see in the paintings how much a very small waist was emphasized in all of the dresses.

Even though trends will probably never go back to how they were in the 18th century it is still interesting to think about how different times were back then.

Products I Recommend.

I may not have the most expensive beauty rountine but that's definately fine with me. You don't have to go to the department store and spend tons of money on stuff that doesn't even last you that long. It's pretty much the same stuff they just slap a designer label on there and hike up the prices.

I've tried tons of different liquid foundations. This Covergirl TruBlend is the best so far. I love the coverage and that they have so many shades.

I used to always use body wash but i love this bar soap. It doesn't dry you out at all and smells really good.

I LOVE this perfume! It's Buckle Original. It smells so good and is not too heavy or musky.
This is the best toothpaste because it's citrus and not the same old boring mint flavor.





This acne treatment works the best and fastest. All you do is dab it on there's not multiple steps.

This is my favorite lotion ever! You stay moisturized forever and it has a little bit of shimmer in it.

I like this face wash because it takes away redness and doesn't dry you out. One bottle lasts forever.

Hello Summer.

There are many ways you can update your closet for summer without spending money on a whole new wardrobe. All you have to do is purchase a few key pieces to update what you already have.

With every new season comes new trends. Just because it's a "trend" doesn't mean you have to wear it. Every once and a while something will come around that's cute but usually it's just a fad that no one besides a runway model would wear.

Here's my little list of ideas:

1. An updated top: There's so many new shapes, prints, and colors coming out. It never hurts to try something on.. you may be pleasantly suprised. Try something with ruffles, a bright print, or a banded bottom.

2. Dark wash bermuda shorts: These are a summer staple. You can dress them up or down. Try a pair with interesting detail on the back pockets.

3. New purse: This is the easiest way to update your wardrobe. Just think.. you carry your purse everyday.. no matter where you go or what you're wearing. Try a bright color or pattern. Your purse doesn't have to match every single thing you own.




*Of course i couldn't talk about a purse without including my pick for cutest purse of the season. It's made by Pauric Sweeney.

4. New sandals: I'm not talking the same old flip flops. I mean an actual pair of sandals that go with everything. If you get a little wedged heel you can dress it up too.


P.S.- I'm not big on the going green trend either but i just wanted to say happy Earth Day. I think that we have a beautiful world and we need to remember who created it. Peace.

Interesting Website.

Maybe one day when I feel like going out on a whim and blowing money I'll buy this $268 gorgeous Coach bag. But I will most likely wait until I'm a nurse and the cost of the bag doesn't equal one paycheck! {lol.}

There is another alternitive to spending a huge lump sum on one bag. I came across this website while researching. It's called Bag Borrow or Steal. I read about it and what you do is get a membership... and how much you pay a month depends on the prices of the bags you want to borrow. They offer all designer purses.. like Coach. You can keep the bag for as long as you want. But the thing is... for me because no matter how long you keep the bag you still are paying a set amout every month. So wouldn't it be a better deal if you borrowed a new purse every week? Because you are paying the same amout every month. Anyway.. they have it where you can print out a shipping label for when you return the bags.

I think this is a pretty clever idea! Definitely something i would look into doing once I'm not making just over minimum wage! {lol.} I'm not as bad about buying new purses all the time like I used to be. I have actually had the same Kathy Van Zeeland bag since my last birthday. I still love it and have just recently thought about purchasing a new one. I have been looking and looking but have failed to find one that i want. I have this idea stuck in my head of purple patent but have had no luck finding one for a reasonable price. I also don't want one that is huge and resembles a suitcase! I mean how much stuff does someone need in their purse??

I was recently on the hunt for new tshirts. I have two that i rotate that i got on vacation.. my other two are very old and have a lot of holes. Anyway.. it's hard to find something if you aren't a big sports fan. Then I remembered they always had cute ones at Lifeway. I looked on their website and they didn't have the selection like they do in the store... So i Googled Christian tshirts and came across this website http://www.christianswag.com/. They have alot of cute ones.. so I ended up getting two. They have tshirts for men, women, and kids. They weren't that expensive and another plus is they shipped super fast.. like they said it would take 9 days or something but it was like half that.

Spring Trends???

I have been reading Seventeen magazine for as long as i can remember and I look foward to getting it every month. I was slightly in shock when I started reading one of the cover stories on cute looks for spring. They have a spread on top ten must have items.. and I was kind of disturbed when i found... well read it for yourself and see.

Do you a see a pattern in this? Does this read like 1985 to you??? Hello it's 2009! I mean i know trends come back or whatever.. but they took some of the worst trends ever and put them all together. {oversize blazer, croppd top, pleated pants} Frankly, they are all bad. I mean, come on, I haven't seen anyone wear a cropped top since Britney Spears in 1998! If I see someone walking down the street in a cropped top and pleated pants i will be very upset! I mean the media, including magazines, are a big influence on a lot of people. Some people may not even realize how wrong this is! This has to be a joke!

Grammy Awards '09: Best and Worst Dressed.

I have done my research and decided on my picks for best and worst dressed for the Grammy Awards. I'm not really into actually watching the award shows but it's always fun to see what everyone is wearing. I found that there were very few choices for best dressed! The majority wore very strange things.

Best Dressed.

~Like I said before.. there really were not that many choices for best dressed... I'm not crazy over either of these dresses but at least they didn't look absolutely out of their mind. I think that they both look really pretty though and I would definitely pick the black dress over the gold.

Worst Dressed.

~Lucky me i found a picture of my picks for worst dressed together! They are two of a kind! I do not know what in the world Katy Perry was thinking when she picked out that bubblegum pink dress. It wouldn't be that bad if it didn't have that weird bow thing in the front. And as for M.I.A.... I have to cut the girl a little slack.. i think she is like 8 months pregnant..maybe 9. So i can't blame her fo wearing sneakers but come on... i know there are wayyy better maternity dresses out there than that!

My Go-To Stores and Why.

~In No Order~

1. Kohls: I like that they have alot of selection brand wise. I usually come here for tops. I have found dress pants here that i adore but can never find a good fitting pair of jeans. On a recent shopping trip, I think I tried on about 10 pairs of jeans and had no luck. I also like their shoe department.

2. JCPenney: Yes, employee discounts is a plus but there are also other reasons to shop here. Before I worked here i had no idea about the sales/clearance they have. So I think if you are an outsider the most important thing in being successful shopping here is to know when the sales are going on. I've found that they are a season ahead. Like right now we have next to no winter clothes. So even if it's still 85 degrees outside, that's when you need to buy winter clothes in order to have the best selection. since I've worked here, the only clothing brand i buy is Decree. Tops only. No good jeans here either. Decree full priced items are a bit pricey but when they are on sale/clearance or on BOGO then it's totally worth it.

3. Target: Ok. Target. I have mixed feelings. I've noticed they have good seasons and bad. Like this past spring/summer i couldn't find anything. But then when fall/winter clothes came out I found a few cute tops. Both sweater material with short sleeves. I also found jeans... Can you believe it? The trick was that i looked in the womens department. Much better fit. I'm sorry but i dont like my underwear to come up higher than the rise on my jeans! They are dark wash and a very light material... good for dressy casual. My only complaint is that since the material is light that they get baggy quick but i just dry them instead of hanging them to dry and they hold up longer.

4. Forever 21/Charlotte Russe: You have to dig for something good at these places! Everytime i go to the mall i make a quick stop to these two stores. Sometimes i find something, sometimes i don't. They have alot of uglies but every once and a while I find something great! These stores are all about trends and just because it's a trend doesn't mean it looks good on you!

5. Aeropostale: If you asked me a month or two ago, I would've never put this store on my list. There was a few years where everyone was wearing clothes from here, but I got bored with it. And all the sudden the fits started being weird. Like you had to have a tiny waste and huge boobs. Anyway... I was at the mall blowing my Christmas money and i saw a sign saying all jeans $19.87. Which is a good deal considering how expensive their full prices are. {about $50} So i went in and started looking at all the different fits they had. When i read "Hailey Skinny Flare" I thought i heard angels singing! Finally! Someone with common sense has made a pair of jeans! I HATE most jeans because if they fit my waist then they are too big in the legs and knees.. and they look all baggy and stupid. I like the idea of a skinny jean but it doesn't look too cute when you have a butt and thighs. I have to have something to balance it all out. Anyway... finally something that fits in the waist and isn't baggy in the knees! So anyway... those are my new favorite pairs of jeans.
